Wed Jul 19 13:31:09 EDT 2000 ascii_newrain.tar.gz is a collection of ASCII files representating the Amazon River Basin precipitation data. ascii_newrain.tar.gz contains 294 ".txt" files created by accessing each of the 21 rainYY.hdf year files within newrain.tar.Z and creating ASCII data files. For example, for the 1992 precipitation HDF data file, rain92.hdf, there is a Label file [Lab92.txt], a Description file [Des92.txt], and a precipitation data file for each of the 12 months [Jan92.txt, etc.]. The Label and Description files are pure text, with each precipitation data file comma delimited with 126 lines of 151 values. The total collection of ".txt" files are tarred and gzip-compressed.
