BOREAS RSS-10 TOMS Circumpolar One-Degree PAR Images

Satellite estimates of surface-incident photosynthetically active
radiation at 1 degree spatial resolution.  Latitudes 41 to 66
degrees N latitude.  Temporal coverage from May through September for 
years 1979 through 1989.  Derived from Nimbus-7 Total Ozone Mapping
Spectrometer (TOMS).


163 binary data sets, 1 parameter per dataset, 19 parameters in all.

Each file has 25 rows, 360 columns.  PAR files are 2-byte unsigned
integers in IEEE byte order.  Other 7 file types (snow/ice masks,
vegetation masks, and ocean masks) are 1-byte unsigned integers.
The two-byte data were scaled from floating point data and must be
restored using equations in GUIDE documentation.  The GUIDE documentation
also identifies the variable and time frame corresponding to each
file number.

Sample PAR and "sm1m" files were loaded as single band Imagine files
and converted to jpeg using 2 standard deviations stretching and
75% quality.  Other variables do not generate useful JPEG images
and are not included.
